John Cena shocked the wrestling world when he announced his retirement from WWE at Money in the Bank. The sixteen-time world champion revealed that 2025 would be his last year as a professional wrestler. In light of that, CM Punk commented on the surprising bombshell during the post-show press conference.

The Second City Saint was asked how much Cena meant to him. Punk mentioned how he met The Franchise Player backstage during the show. While speaking to his former rival, the former AEW World Champion vowed to drag him out of retirement. Punk claimed that despite Cena’s insistence on hanging up his boots next year, he’ll somehow deliver on his promise.

The Best in the World then reflected on his rivalry with John Cena. Punk held the latter in high regard, saying that it wouldn’t be possible to talk about The Cenation Leader while talking about his career. The Chicago-born wrestler added that he was also crucial in shaping the former US Champion’s illustrious run at the top. Therefore, CM Punk felt that he was ‘married’ to Cena from that perspective.

CM Punk comments on John Cena's WWE retirement announcement:

"I texted him right away and I said, 'Don't leave before you say hi to me'. And he texted back, 'Haha, have a good one tonight'. And I immediately took that as, 'Piss off, I'm leaving', so…

And it makes me feel proud that I think if you talk about John's career, I think you have to talk about me. We're married in that respect.

Interestingly, the Voice of the Voiceless teased one more match against him during the latter’s retirement tour. Since Punk’s return to WWE, fans have clamored for both legends to run back the clock one more time. With that said, only time will tell whether the duo squares off against each other in the ring next year.

CM Punk inadvertently cost Seth Rollins World Heavyweight title match at Money in the Bank

For the second time in a month, CM Punk cost Drew McIntyre an opportunity to win the World Heavyweight Championship. However, The Scottish Warrior wasn’t the only person he screwed at Money in the Bank. The Best in the World interfered in the triple-threat involving Damian Priest and his bitter enemy, Seth Rollins.

After helping Priest retain his title, Punk almost came to blows with The Visionary. The latter confronted The Second City Saint at ringside as he had to be calmed by Corey Graves. Rollins clearly told Punk to stay out of his way, something he had warned him about during the road to WrestleMania.

With McIntyre lashing out at management, the former Shield member will certainly be in an agitated mood. Now that he can’t challenge for the title until Priest is champion, he’ll have only Punk to blame for the situation. Therefore, fans will have to wait and see how things unfold on this Monday’s edition of Raw.
