Light snow forecast for Idaho Thursday, should help clean out the bad air

Little change in the weather pattern for the Treasure Valley is expected through Wednesday. High pressure will continue to keep valley inversions in place along with the low-level stratus clouds. Temperatures were colder than normal Monday as a result of pooling cold air in the valley, highs were right near freezing. We expected similar temperatures today and Wednesday.

A change to the weather pattern is anticipated for Thursday. Forecast guidance is still ironing out some of the details with a low-pressure system that should bring moisture to all areas and a break from valley inversions. Early guidance suggests that snow showers could spread into portions of the lower valley early Thursday morning with the bulk of moisture moving in Thursday evening. Valley rain/snow and light mountain snow showers are currently in the forecast for Thursday evening. The mountains could pick up about 1-3" with little accumulation in the Treasure Valley.

Some moisture will linger into early Friday as the storm system clears out. Cold enough air is forecast to arrive with the storm to help mix out valley inversions for Friday. Partly cloudy skies are expected with near-average highs. For the weekend, high pressure will return to the area, and valley inversions will start to rebuild. For now, mostly sunny skies are forecast for Saturday with partly cloudy skies Sunday. Temperatures should be close to normal highs over the weekend as well.
